Conveniently located just minutes from downtown Opelika, Family Roots Nursery and Garden Center sits on over 26 scenic acres of partially wooded land. Whether you’re shopping for plants, exploring our gardens, or enjoying the peaceful surroundings, our nursery is easy to find and always welcoming.
An excellent business, although new (one year in business) they are VERY responsive. I called about 8 nurseries in the area regarding questions I had for some new shrubs I needed and only two called me back and only one (Family Roots) after a brief call regarding my query, sent options over with photos. After that Lindsey called to discuss the matter and to explain why what I had thought I wanted was not the best choice for the location we had planned to install the shrubs. We visited, purchased the shrubs, and during a discussion of our future landscape plans and the failure of perennials I had planted in a full-sun location, , Jake H mentioned a “butterfly” (a/k/a pollinator) garden they were planning for a client. The pollinator garden Family Roots had designed for a client was in a location very similar to our planting environment. Jake made a design with a diagram for our space after we sent photos and measurements. After some back and forth, we agreed on the plan and they have installed phase 1 (2 more phases will be installed in the fall and early spring).
A few weeks later, we also asked for suggestions for a screening hedge for an area near a chain link fence after getting some quite shocking quotes for a privacy fence (about 100′ long). That too was excellent (we were given several options to choose from). Those shrubs will be going in during the next month. If you’re looking for landscape help or just for some healthy shrubs that you might not find at the big box stores, call on Family Roots, you won’t be sorry!

Jake and Jake installed 2 raised beds in our backyard and from the start of the project until they were finished we were very happy with everything. The whole process went very smoothly. Jake came to our home to discuss what we wanted, explained the process, then sent us the estimate. Once we paid the deposit, we were put on the schedule. Jake and Jake came on the 2 days that were scheduled and completed everything that was listed in the estimate. They also made sure we were happy with the finished product before leaving. We were very happy with our experience and highly recommend this company for any landscaping needs.
Got a really good deal on fruit trees (pear and apple) and help getting things to the car. Staff was very passionate and helpful, gave a lot of ideas.
Great sale prices and customer service! The location is very quaint, but I loved hearing Jake’s plan for expansion! He seems to really want to develop into a community hub for gardening

They also laid a rock path to my chicken coop, which now looks much cleaner and pleasant, not to mention easy to access.
To finish it off, they uprooted and cleared up a vast area invaded by brambles and weeds, stuff that I couldn’t do if I wanted to!
I am absolutely thrilled for their work, suggestions, and overall awesomeness.

What a world of difference. When compared to other places in the area, this one sets themselves apart. I ordered some soil to be delivered, and they were extremely responsive, and punctual. The soil was a very good looking soil, and a can’t wait to grow my plants that were sitting in containers for a month while I waited for another business to deliver.
The people here really seem to care, and are friendly. Definitely worth the visit!

Friendly, knowledgeable, and a really nice variety of plants. Phenomenal, attentive customer service. I also love the idea of buying local and this place seems to really try to source locally and set people up for success for growing plants. We will be back.
The members of this family owned business are very knowledgeable and helpful. They offered us multiple suggestions for landscaping our home. Their plants are beautiful and well maintained. We will be back in the fall planting season. Their plans for the expansion area of the property include offering a u-pick berry field. They also have bulk soil, rock etc. Additionally they offer landscaping/planting services.
Yesterday was the second time I hired Family Roots to help me with some landscaping and weeding. Jake and Jake are an awesome team. They are very conscientious about satisfying the customer…. which seems to be a rarity these days. They also were very gracious in helping me set up my soaker hose and timer. Their services are very reasonable. I’d rate them 10 stars ⭐️ if that was an option.
These people are honest and amazing! We cut some diseased trees down for them recently because they wanted to keep their stock safe and healthy and while we were there we had the pleasure of talking with them for a while! They are super passionate about their business and super easy to work with! If you have any needs for plants or landscaping (or firewood) they are the people to reach out to! I will recommend them any time someone asks!

Great people. Super knowledgeable and passionate. Great prices too!! We got berry bushes for half the price you could find them at Home Depot for- not to mention they look wayyy better than the Home Depot ones! Excited to go back. 10/10
